From pipedream to pipeline – moonshine Birdman to airline – sunshine Crystal structures in the water Gently wake the river’s daughter Pouring the ingenious mortar To create the daughter’s daughter Marine life and submarine – discipline Medicine from whale fin – deadly sin Unfamiliar shapes at night Sometimes not a pretty sight No surrender without fight Embrace the future, see the light And everything falls into place Quietly From ivory to piano key – sympathy Compressed leaves to energy – a legacy Searching for identity The price is there for all to see A helping hand torn from a tree To guide the stroke of victory Polished glass, born in the sea – astronomy Discovery to colony – infinity The man with the gun Stands alone in the sun Saving his life, and that of his son And everything falls into place Quietly From palace to ruins – sand dunes From square to round – stone-ground Unfound Spellbound [This song was inspired by the game-changing book The Blind Watchmaker and is humbly dedicated to its author Richard Dawkins.]

Part 1 - Growth (0:00 - 5:26): Caught in the middle of this big dilemma I must solve the riddle and adjust my antenna Breathing Drinking Thinking Part 2 - Reaping (5:27 - 12:13): No one in this crowded room can penetrate through my cocoon There's talk of food, there's talk of rain But I've got thunder on my brain The more I look the less I see This endless talk is bugging me Politeness here, forgiveness there They say I'm rude but I don't care The clock is ticking The ancient ghost we fear the most Acting like I've made the grade A winning smile that just can't fade This is how the game is won Connect the dots and it is done Trust is for wimps, control is best Charm your friends, and screw the rest Dominate and denigrate Life is only what we take The clock is ticking The ancient ghost we fear the most Bright lights, sharp eyes Long nights, white lies One rule for you, one rule for me No single world we all can see All players dance, dance to the beat Always advance and no retreat Whichever way this game will move Another day, another groove The endless quest to solve the riddle The shades are down, the lights are low No one here knows where to go I've got to move but hesitate there's time to kill, there's time to wait It used to be my inner voice That saved me taking Hobson’s Choice Now words I hear are far from clear and speak not wisdom but of fear Part 3 - Reconnaissance (12:14 - 19:19) Part 4 - Clues (19:20 - 24:42): He moves with purpose and intent And those who paved the way Don't know that paving stones are all He wanted on the day Hot-blooded beasts strain harnesses In every way they can approach But when the whip is laid to rest They graze in peace beside the coach With open arms and no regret No answer is too far away But every clue extends the net The riddle weaves to catch its prey His selfless gift in times of need Gives credence to the saint Soon even beggars from afar Support his cause without restraint Horizons far the sailor seeks And tires not despite rough seas The gardener never leaves these shores Yet both are happy as can be With open arms and no regret No answer is too far away But every clue extends the net The riddle weaves to catch its prey

about

A timeless, hand-polished mirror ball of formative Flux.

While the first Blue Flue release dates back to 1986, Convergence features songs written between 1988 and 1997. Ten years that marked the band's most productive period in terms of sheer album numbers recorded, despite an awareness that the rest of the world still failed to take much notice. Or maybe just because.

The tracks on Convergence were chosen from five of our earliest albums. And disparate or not, once lashed together they appear to float quite happily on the ocean of new normal. Most agree that the first leg of Blue Flux's journey was completed by the 1997 offering The Riddle, and so it's nice to see that its iconic title track also joins this compilation.
More background and other oddities can be found on each song's individual page, along with production info, album details, and track art.

For the studio-wise reader: all audio material here was originally captured on 4-track tape, except for The Riddle which enjoyed the luxury of 8-track hard disc recording. Most keyboard sounds however were always Midi-controlled and thus mixed directly to the stereo master which, as of 1992, had been upgraded to DAT format.

No song on this album has previously been published. That's mostly due to a lack of serious label interest. But also because dwelling on past achievements seemed far less fun than getting lost in the next adventure.
Many years and a few unforeseen events later, reason prevailed. And now, polished and re-mastered in 2022, these early works seem plenty fit for the road ahead. Let's hope they'll make it far enough to testify that enduring passion and resourcefulness can be just as inspiring as a flashy studio, or a hard-boiled record deal.
