In and out, and overnight my world shrinks Heart beats proud and never blinks Words ran out, or did I run from them Creeping doubt - best play dead again Out and in right back into the same old me Genuine, but bound for singularity Pulled the pin on brazen lies and lifeless eyes Slipped my skin, but kept my scars as alibies I'm drawing the line, page by page I'm giving it time for reason to engage And up in the clouds floating billboards remind: "Paradise closed, unless you are blind" Lost and found like nighthawks in a diner Bombshell frown, or giggles made of china It takes all sorts, and one to know one It's all good sport, so go with the flow, hun Me and you, sweet, we got everythin clicking Clock's a-tickin, you're in control, sorry, gotta roll Next time we'll meet under this rainbow, incognito I'm drawing the line, page by page I'm giving it time for reason to engage Daubed on a wall words that I should have known "No banging of heads, unless it isn't your own" Come on, it's time to go home

Pipeline 04:14
No dream like the present, no lie like the past The veil of obsession, once was tied to a mast Long grass seems greener, but a cut is much cleaner And each word sounds much leaner than the last Kaleidoscope faces, with names I forget Response calibration, can feel like Russian roulette Bygone lustre (Gone Gone) Crowns tomorrow's blockbuster (So long, I will...) Strangely twisted, sure they've missed it slip the net Somewhere in space-time I've been sold down the pipeline Now my pickings are fatter but get lost in the chatter For my convenience they've enhanced the experience And when I call it surrender they just smile No dream like the present, no die left uncast My map may be shrinking But the world it shows today seems just as vast Parked on a server (Here now) For some future observer (Somehow, I'm more...) A life in code not taken further than the past Somewhere in space-time I've been sold down the pipeline Now my pickings are fatter but get lost in the chatter Somewhere in space-time I've been spat out the pipeline Now my words are outspoken and no promise was broken In their experience I've become quite delirious And when they call it surrender I just smile

Don't Let Go 05:24
Coming up for air, clouds break You were always there, on the shore of my life Been away for weeks, seems like Locked up with the geeks making noise to fool time Laughter from afar, lifeline Ready when you are, pull me back to dry land Now I can feel the undertow Day by day safe and sound, so don't let go Drugs and medicine blind me But your adrenaline strikes the bell of my heart Quotes and poems cry glass tears Look me in the eye when it's time to depart The temple of my mind is walled in Who knows what we'll find when we fly right off the chart Cheating the undertow Beating odds and even vertigo It takes two wings to fly, so don't let go Coming up for air, clouds break You were always there, on the shore of my life Laughter from afar, lifeline Ready when you are, so pull me back to dry land

Charity 06:33
Oh charity - you don't get the best of me My lethargy starves your vanity A favour earned, my lesson learned Way back before my conscience burned Dark rivers flow day in and out To feed the sea of human doubt As floodgates rise, so does the prize for somebody Sweet charity - I cannot see what you can see Your destiny lies in a world unknown to me Where black is white Where down is up and left is right Where shadows might Peel off the ground to join your graceful flight Dear charity, please be my muse and honeybee And pledge to me To compromise my anonymity My charity wears red by day and rags for tea Life's fantasy punched harder even than TV Behind a veil of borrowed grace all dreams derail No tears for sale, just lonely eyes to gaze into And hear, when spent words fail Dark rivers flow day in and out To feed the sea of human doubt When thunder calls the torrents rage To flush the dirt right off the stage As floodgates rise, so does the prize for somebody
5.
Dust 05:24
The pleasure you take, taboos that you break Emotions you fake, for your family's sake The voices you trust concur that you must And with proof this robust you fall for dust It's lighter than air yet descends everywhere To cling and ensnare, to cement layer by layer Future, present and past, right or wrong Made to last Red sky at night - Russian delight Choppers at dawn - Retribu-Shawn Comrades in space - race Home of the brave - face Murder most foul - a toothless howl Drug tsars unite - fight And Y2K plight - right While scraping rust, you fell for dust It's a disease you cannot appease For once ignored then twice the tease Please please please... And once released we gladly feast Until some clown's caged another beast With news a must, you turn to dust You turn, you turn, you turn it off

Midas Suite 04:30
Across the line to reach cloud nine, it's heaving this evening A waspish wash of closet posh that crackle when tackled Their untold loss of flaking gloss, mere glitter for Twitter But fun tirades and love grenades Cut deeper through the ether How did it start and how will it end Please text your answer and share with a friend Because nobody cares without you Each walk of fame from seats of shame To diction's crucifiction As short of breath as fits her dress Less chipper when words trip her No smile unturned no ladders burned Her wisdom's tango system And first are last as gongs drift past, unsteady already By shake and twist or nepotist Doors unbolted, but fate defaulted From Ulysses to Damocles A short sharp journey on a cold-railed gurney It takes a beast to feed the beast A soul appeased when gawkers feast Tonight's mignon sticks in her craw "Garçon, tout de suite, to Midas Suite!"

Black Dress 05:41
Delirious with common sense Post-furious, no time for cheap amends Life's essence crammed into an Aldi bag Hard times, hard rain makes her stronger Her hair longer Some days, she needs a hole in her head To forget what he should have told her instead She is a heroine, a cyber vamp, a beauty queen Shapes shift like moods drift on Fluoxetine Sword of truth or sword of pain Indecision never raised his game Some days, she wants a mirror that speaks Her name, not her age, nor counts her weeks Brave new world, age-old fear Those who don't pay the ferryman May get fleeced at the new frontier Ever more, never less Than the cost of that little black dress Outside - smooth ride; inside - landslide One slip - unzip, then hide To him - just skin, worn thin and white The key for me is referee insight Good luck, and good night Brave new world, same old pain Lock the door, break the chain Last night's headline: "Mystery! Drowner saved miraculously. Icy water, sudden swell... Unknown hero missing, boy in shock but well." One day, down in the cold she found her voice Not her end, but a start on a train of her choice Brave new world, age-old fears Those who don't pay the ferryman May get fleeced when he re-appears With a grin to repress the allure of that little black dress

Z-Shift 06:38
Hollow and round - gleaming We'll never be found - dreaming A way out of here - the in-between Red and blue for me and you, my dear Let's ride this machine Past and future tense Fast but one-eyed friends In the cinema of time Pull the plug again Taste fresh air when doors open Hands grope until darkness feels sublime Faster than fear - now or soon Freefall's frontier speared by light's harpoon No looking back - not a thing to be seen This storm's tirade will pass and fade to black When stars rush through our machine Hollow and round - gleaming We'll never be found - dreaming Out for lunch, but had a hunch you'd call me Weightless arrival unknown City noise drowned by your voice, a symphony Swept away lightyears from home Cars collide as pavements slide beneath my feet Floating on ultramarine Binary reality is bittersweet Until kissed to life by the mind machine

Cold War 06:54
6:15, peel off dream, keep it fresh between the black hours Bolt on face, cool embrace, eyes to mute, Erase: ALL Nerves flailing - downscaling sanity Tell-tale sting - blackmailing vanity No show, Monsieur Carnot - no laws apply here From inbound to outbound, it's honest dishonesty Lords of the background and queens of obliquity Cold war inside Heads up, eyes down, dull steps, soft frown Crunching up the dead hours The lights are off, curtains drawn, no one's home But life goes on... "Excuse me!" Trading news by telephone, trim that fat but spare the bone Walls of smoke but no fire Behind it all, each crystal ball must keep the score, yeah Mist rolls in, sleepwalking from tea to gin, to mourn The lost hours Upstairs at last to rinse off the past, try not to see the enemy Right there Deep in its shell the dream won't gel A sneer too far, a fake hurrah for good intention

ALBUM REVIEW: Divide and Conquer Music, 28.01.2022
"That Berlin’s got incredible facility with all his instruments and arrangements is obvious by the first minute... A great voice that recalls Glenn Hansard with a touch of Ian Anderson... There’s so much going on here simultaneously that it takes time to sort through it, sort of like prog rock without excessive 'math...' "

The original version of this album was written and recorded during 2014/15, in typically relaxed fashion, until a sudden slew of new commitments conspired to hasten Don’t Let Go’s completion and launch that same year.

Many things have happened since: lives, flags and invisible enemies all flutter precariously on the winds of change. Changes which, when listening back a few months ago, reminded me that this album hails from gentler, less complicated times.
And yet to my mind the rushed launch had left a few stains and dents, made worse by a quest for loudness that back then often overruled rational mixing choices. But this excuse no longer holds true in the auto-capped days of streaming audio.
Reason enough then to re-open this sonic can of wrigglers for a vegan-friendly makeover - enter the 2021 Deep Impact Remix!

Every song was picked to molecular pieces before being re-assembled with the finest tools of the trade: a fresh pair of ears, critical enough for one candidate to be dismissed outright (Collider). Luckily a previously unfinished track (Charity) jumped at the chance, and once scrubbed and polished took its overdue place with some pride.
The keen listener will also notice a revised album running order, and that some songs were shortened by a few indulgent bars while others have gained the odd new instrument or vocal part. And since the process took nearly three months it’s fair to say that, this time around, haste played no part in it.

None of this technically makes Don’t Let Go Again a new album. I think of it as reborn for a different age, one defined by both reminiscent reflections and a sense of re-awakening – sentiments in which this album’s unchanged cultural commentaries may find a firmer foothold.

Thanks for listening!
